Individuals with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities may need additional assistance with determining the best mode of transportation for their needs. Don't worry - there are educational programs to assist with utilizing public transportation as well as obtaining driving permit and license.
- Drive-Ability Services - PCIL's program designed to assist youth 16+ with obtaining driving learner's permit and NJ driver's license.
- New Jersey Travel Independence Program @ Rutgers (NJTIP) - their mission is to increase independence and self-sufficiency of individuals with disabilities, older adults, and others by empowering them to use public transit system safely and independently.
- Greater Mercer TMA Travel Training Program: Free program to assist seniors and individuals with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities learn how to plan their trips, read schedules, pay fares, use accessibility features, and take safety precautions during their travel.

NJ Transit has a robust system designed to support all individuals to access services, but that doesn't mean it's not still overwhelming. Youth can utilize a number of services to increase knowledge of how to utilize the services safely.

NJ Transit Reduced Fare
- Seniors, individuals with disabilities, or military personnel can enjoy greater traveling freedom with lower fares. Must have a photo ID and complete application in order to access reduced rates.

- Non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) rides to NJ FamilyCare persons living anywhere in NJ. Must be requested at least 2 days prior.

- Special Automobile Insurance Policy (SAIP) - an initiative to help make limited auto insurance coverage available to drivers who are eligible for Federal Medicaid with hospitalization. Qualified drivers can obtain medical coverage-only policy at a cost of $365/year.
